DOLL #15 – Laughing Jumeau
This 15-inch Laughing Jumeau doll was produced by the Société Française de Fabrication de Bébés & Jouets (SFBJ) after 1905 and is marked 236. She wears a charming white dress accented with a pale blue ribbon and matching bonnet, creating the appearance of a young child at play. Her most distinctive feature is her joyful open-mouthed expression, often referred to by collectors as a "laughing" character doll. The bright facial modeling, expressive eyes, and rosy complexion give her a lively personality that stands apart from more traditional French bébés.
The doll is listed in good condition, showing some wear to the hands consistent with age and handling. Close examination reveals tiny chips and areas of missing paint on several fingertips, while the remainder of the composition body presents well. She retains her sleep eyes, and the cheerful character face remains one of her most appealing features. Her blonde wig and period-style clothing complement the playful expression for which this model is known.
Collection notes indicate that the original purchase information is unknown. Nevertheless, her large 15-inch size, distinctive laughing face, and association with the SFBJ period of French doll production make her an attractive and memorable example within the collection.
